Jill Eskenas, who teaches second grade at Randolph, began her day as usual Tuesday, April 18, according to a GoFundMe campaign launched for her.

That evening, Jill called a friend complaining of a headache and intense neck pain. Tragically, Jill suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, at just 39 years old, without warning, the campaign says.

"She spent 12 days in the ICU and 6 days on the Neuro floor at INOVA Fairfax Hospital," the campaign says. Jill remained hospitalized at INOVA Fairfax Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital for medical care and intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy, the campaign goes on to say.

According to Randolph principal Carlos Ramirez, her presence is missed — both by students and colleagues-turned-friends.

"Jill is one of the kindest and hardest working teachers I have ever met," Ramirez said. "Her love for teaching and her passion for ensuring that all her students become a better version of themselves is remarkable.

"Colleagues hold Jill in high esteem, as she is a role model, a compassionate leader, and a caring coworker."

Jill's condition was not immediately known as of press time.

More than $21,100 had been raised on the campaign for Jill as of Thursday, July 13. Click here to donate.
